General Motors Corp owes us one after pulling their EV division back in the 1980's. Despite these advantages, there are disadvantages associated with the Chevrolet Volt. The car takes between 6 to 8 hours to fully charge. Although the car can be charged overnight, it may be difficult to do this consistently. Get the facts on leasing or buying one of these great cars.

None the less electrical plugs and outlets are available everywhere, it may be difficult to charge your car.

For example, say you are work, on vacation or live in an apartment building. You may not have access to an extension cord or power outlet close enough to charge your vehicle. Another major drawback is cost.

Scientists and researchers have created many environmentally friendly inventions, but the one that may have most impact is environmentally friendly electric cars.

Sales have steady grown on hybrid electric vehicles that run on fossil fuels and electric power. Recently car manufacturers have been dedicating their time, energy and resources to creating cars that only run on electric power and like the Volt both.

The all-new Chevrolet Volt was named the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year one of the major honors in the auto industry. The Volt received the Environmental Grand Prize at the 2009 Festival International Automobile and was awarded the 2009 Green Car Vision Award.

Although the jury is still out about this electric car, the Chevy Volt has received excellent reviews. It is modernized, stylish and eco friendly. However, the cost has been viewed as a huge drawback.

The officially cost to possess the Chevy Volt is approximately $41,000, with a tax credit of up to $7,500 lowering this amount. Other electric vehicles and hybrids cost $10,000 to $20,000 less.

How will it do? Only time will tell. However, according to sources, GM sold 1,210 Volt's in the U.S.A. in the first quarter of 2011. So, look for these cars to be in very high demand. Sold out is the word!

General Motors, announced that Volt drivers were traveling 1,000 miles before needing to drop in on the local gas station.

Making their new PHEV more practical for more drivers. GM's plug-in Volt runs on batteries and switches over to its gasoline-powered electric generator, when the charge decreases. Allowing for these claims.

Sounds a good to be true? The Volt electric plug-in hybrid has received an EPA estimated 230 city miles per gallon.

Keep in mind that for the first 40 miles of driving on a full charge, the Volt uses no fuel at all! For the Volt, they base this number on combined electric only driving and charge supporting approach with the gasoline generator functioning.
